Off Down to Devon November 2009

Off in a car full of brothers to Devon for a weekender in November, rather than the 5 star treatment we have opted for a B&B, just off the Jurasic Coastline. Check this out then. Tripple room for £79.00 all in! So here is a brief description:
A 17th century former coaching inn serving Traditional Pub Food in the pretty village of Sidbury. Just 2 miles from the Jurassic coast and surrounded by some fine walking country the location is just perfect. Favourites like hand made Steak and Ale pie or succulent Rib Eye Steaks, well kept Real Ales and the warmth of a proper country welcome make any visit a treat. With rooms available its a great base to explore the countryside and fine beaches round about.

Get the Punter in the 'Vision'

Next key word to look at on your printed matter is:
VISION
This is possibly the most important. Get the product or better still the benefit of the product appearing visually and not just as text. You want to get the customer visualising in their minds your product working for them and solving the issues they currently have. You are better of setting space aside on the printed item for this and NOT for your company name and logo. But dont fall into the trap of showing a mundane object. Lifestyle marketing which is now a universally accepted marketing tool works in this way.

Get 'Dissatified ' it works

To get your print working for your business you need to get the message right. How many times have I said this? Well going to let you into a few secrets over the next few days. And here is the first.
DISSATISFACTION.
Work out why potential customers could be dissatified with your competition's products and why they want sometime new. Then use this to your advantage and it will change overnight your proposition . What will happen is the message you are pumping out there will no longer be what you do, but what's  in it for the consumer. Remember us humans are a selfish bunch and want to know what's in it for us. The very best way to acheive this is to strike a chord with dissatisfaction.

Dissatisfaction is a far more powerful emotional than pleasure. Think about it. How many times have you heard yourself saying about your customers; 'they never thank us for doing a great job, but moan their heads off when things go wrong!! Just think about the old adage; you do a great job and the customer tells one person, you do a crap job and they tell the World. But how best to find out their dissatisfaction you may ask. Simple send out a questionaire to your customers and you know what, they will be only too deilighted to tell you about when something went wrong with a previous supplier. And you can have 500 A4 quesrionaires designed and printed in as many colours as you like for £125.00.
Tomorrow is VISION!

The Great St. Neots River Defence Plaque Debacle continued

You may recall a previous post talking about the shameful plaque put up my St. Neots authorities. If you have missed it or forgotten follow this link: http://www.printhut.co.uk/blog/2009/10/attention-vandals-in-st-neots-town-has.html
Anyway, I'm not one to rattle on, but was I so amused, bemused and disgusted by what I saw, it must be in my current Reticular Activating System (the network in the reticular formation that serves an alerting or arousal function). I was away in Suffolk and saw how it can so easiler be done. Please take note St. Neots and do something that can be so much better for everyone in St. Neots!!!

St. Neots match report 25th October 2009

St Neots Under 9s Match Report
Well as you may be aware we have a guest match reporter for this week. So big thanks to Allan Denham for stepping in. I was away in Suffolk on a Sun Holiday for a tenner which worked out to be 132 pounds in the end!!! Thanks for all the photos, but unfortunately your camera setting was on too higher resolution for our web server to handle. Apologies about that Allan, I should have mentioned that!!!I should have also mentioned that blogs dont like apostrophies either, hence no apostrophie in the word dont for example, so you will see a few odd characters cropping up.
Any way feast your eyes over this literary masterpiece...... and any spelling mistakes please bring up with Allan directly...

Huntingdon vs St Neots 25 October 2009
Well!! What a difference two weeks and a bit of training makes.
Two games against the old rivals saw St Neots victorious in both. Not only that but – and of course I’m not biased – the winning margins in both games could well have been greater. OK so we did have a ringer in the shape of Jordon Holdaway from the Under 10s. As his team weren’t playing Huntingdon were asked if he could play with the Under 9s and they sportingly readily agreed.

The first game of 15 minutes each way saw St Neots make a cracking start with Harry scoring within the first two minutes. This was followed up in the first half with two scores by Jordon. Huntingdon got one in reply but St Neots were always on top. The second half saw a closer match with both teams scoring one try. St Neots’ try coming from Callum after he had a strong run down the wing before cutting inside and passing the defence with ease.
The score for St Neots could have been greater but for some confusion over where the try line was. Both Alex and Liam thought they had scored only to find they were not in the “in touch” area. Perhaps the team needs a clearer briefing where the various lines could be in doubt.
The second game also saw St Neots starting strongly with some excellent driving by the forwards and passing from the backs. Scorers this half were Alex and Jordon without reply from Huntingdon. The excellent standard of play continued with a further two tries, one from Callum and the other from James, again without reply from Huntingdon.
This was a much better team performance with the forwards working well at winning the ball and getting it out to the backs. There was much better organisation all round and if we continue to progress like this for the rest of the season who knows what can be achieved.
Man of the match – chosen by a straw poll of parents was Alex for his consistent strong running and tackling. So well done to him but also to the rest of the team. You all did really well.
Game 1 Huntingdon 10 St Neots 20
Game 2 Huntingdon 0 St Neots 20

Print Hut hit the 1MILLION pound mark 3 months early!!!

More proof if required that we are in 'economic spring time' and no longer the winter of discontent!!
Low interest rates, stock markets up, housing pricing on the rise and Print Hut hit the 1 Million pound mark of sales three months ahead of schedule!!! What more evidence do you want then!!

Well we made it over the first hurdle then and a big thanks to everybody, customers, staff and our ultra wholesale print suppliers. I said to myself it could be done within 3 years, when I realised I was TOTALLY unemployable, but to be honest didnt know weather it would be done. Print Hut hit the 1MILLION pound of sales mark last month, 3 months ahead of schedule. Will be celebrating somehow, but for the immediate future its eyes down for the next goal. And just for you guys out there following a similar journey; I never wasted time writing a business plan, thats not to say I didnt have one though!!!

St Neots under 9's Mini Rugby Training session 18th October 2009

Yet another glorious day down at the St. Neots ground for another training session before our crunch match against the old enemy. HUNTINGDON AWAY We had a good turn out for the St. Neots under 9s with 13 little mini rugby stars eager to learnt from last weeks hammering from Hitchin.
This week Bryan and Jim took the backs for drill work whilst the forwards went off with the big boys (under 10s) where they experienced Colin and Daves style of training. We also saw the forwards on a scrum machine for the first time, and eventually they realised it wasnt a fair ground attraction but their worst nightmare come true.

The second half of the training saw a match against the St. Neots under 10s with a twist and to start with I had no bloody idea what was going on, with yellow vests been dished out left, right and centre!! The under 9s forwards joined the under 10s backs and the under 9s backs joined the under 10s forwards.
This was a great session with everybody getting a good run out on the large field of play. It was obvious very early on that the St. Neots under 9s would learn a lot from their more experienced team mates and Colin came down hard with the rule book but just a hard with the players sticking to their roles and positions. The whistle was blown regularly for knock ons etc etc, but very little for off side which shows the boys are probably learning much quicker than we give them credit for.

Bryan and Jim awarded man of the match / player of the week to Liam for being a right ol nuisance to the opposition, getting the loose ball, driving forward and ripping the ball out of his opponents grip.

Next week we have Huntingdon away.
Finally could I also remind all that the boys on behalf of Jim and Bryan that gum shields in the mouth is compulsory and not a fashion accessory to be kept in their bags. Any player without a gum shield will be asked to sit out in future. YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED!!!
Finally dont forget the interaction scheme running between the seniors and the minis and your little darling could be in a picture like this. Remember when the seniors are at home, St. Neots Mini Rugby stars are invited to warm up with them, be a ball ball for the game and are presented with a certificate from the senior club. Ask Bryan for more details. Picture supplied by Liams Grand parents

Postal Strike All out next week. Print based Direct Mail is snookered!!!

Well was on the cards wasn't it. Cheers Lord Mandy for all your help on this one!!! So dont be taken in by all this waffle from the likes of 'post switch' or is it 'switch post' always get it mundled up!! All because you sent mulk mail through a Downstream access provider (partial reregulation) doesn't mean it will get through. In actual fact I would say it will take even longer. Anti competitive behaviour is still rife in the postal centres and with the more millitant operation centres, despite postcomm's (postal regulator) greatest efforts to eradicate it. You can bet your bottom dollar, mail with a traditional Royal mail indicia will get preferential treatment - just see. We are snookered in the DM business for the next few weeks. De regulate the whole damn industry now!!!

Watched this with some reservation at home in St. Neots. How was Phillips going to preform, was Johnstone going to go forward and leave defence open. Was Beckham going to get a game. Well all questions answered and satisfied with the performance. Big decisions for the boss over the next few months. Print Hut's man of the match was again Johnstone. Well done that boy. We like his aggressive nature and ability to put pressure on the oppositions defence. However, lets not forget Beckham's outstanding ability to open the game right up by dropping the long ball onto a sixpence. Brilliant, but not enough playing time to get Print Hut's vote this time. Sorry David!!

Think of the environment...please don't print this e-mail unless you really need to

If there is one comment that drives me insane it's this one that seems to be appearing on everyone's emails lately.
Its at daft as asking everybody to:
1. Catch the number 29 bus in the morning and not drive to work, providing the 29 bus of course goes to your place of work
2. Only buy food and not the packaging
3. Holiday in the UK only.
Why not say:
Please consider the paper industry and the estimated 67,000 people who are employed within it before NOT printing off this email - it will be equally effective

Hitchin 25 St. Neots 0 Hitchin 30 St. Neots 10

So this was the first game of the new season for the St. Neots under 9s. Could the lads bring all the elements of the new game to Hitchin a club that always starts strong and has a far superior depth of squad than most in our league?
Well from the start it was clear that Hitchin were a more advanced squad, had successfully transcended the tag game and had a maturer understanding of the maul and rucking, showing St. Neots how to present the ball, create space and pass out to the wings.
For the first game St Neots didnt find the space needed to break Hitchins line and though the wingers of James and Alex found opportunities the support wasnt there when the tackles came in. Sloppy passing by St. Neots made Hitchins job easier than they could have possibly expected and quickly found the St. Neots loose balls that led to the tries and a final score for the first game of 25 0. However, both Liam and Daniel began to use their build and showed us that we have a formidable driving force, only lacking fine tuning and technique when presenting the ball, something which our hosts seemed to have a much better understanding of.

The second game saw all boys getting a game and some of our earlier weaknesses seemed to have improved. Liam was the first to break Hitchins line after a loose ball, then a penalty awarded to St. Neots for a knock on allowed Daniel, 10 yards from their line to make it 2 for St. Neots with a great straight run into their defence. However St. Neots never looked like they could take home a victory this week against such a strong side so early on in the new season. The final score of game 2 sat at 30-10.

Bryan and Jim both praised the boys for their effort and determination reiterating that you can work on technique, but ya cant work on passion. The player of the week was awarded to Thomas and not James as earlier posted (sorry James) by the players. Next week is at St. Neots for training. Please email Bryan with what areas of training you feel we should be concentrating on next week.

Interesting lunch date set for 4th November

This months interesting lunch in St. Neots is set for 4th November 2009. As you may be aware Print Hut have linked up with the East Anglian Air Ambulance Service through our 'Charitable Chain' programme You can read more here: http://www.printhut.co.uk/cambridgeshire-air-ambulance.htm. So thought we should get them down to talk to us on their good work. I am delighted to welcome Barabra McGee to the group and listening to 10 interesting facts about the EAAA. The Bridgehouse in St. Neots have very kindly donated 20% of the buffet takings to EAAA.

Robert Horne Paper Increases by 5 to 7% from 2nd November 2009

Expect other paper merchants to follow a similar path on this. Rarely, one goes without the others. In all honesty, most printing companies have all been surprised this hasn't come earlier. However my only beef is the comment about the need to improve returns. There are loads of other ways to improve returns rather than chuck it as the customers and I would like to think the increase in sales price has been a last resort. However there is no written evidence of this!!!  Frank Golden

The Union Flag debate

Was trying to explain to some St. Neots youngsters last night about our flag. Christ what a mess we are in. How on earth are we meant to promote our nationality and identity when we dont even know who we are meant to be - including me. Are we English - YES. Are we British - YES. Do we live in the UK -YES. Do we live in the British Isles- YES, though only geographically speaking. Is our country Gt. Britain or Britain?- . Is Scotland part of Gt. Britain -YES. Is Wales techincally a country? and so on and so on and so on. However thats only half of it. What about our flag then. This is an even bigger mess. Why is Wales part of the United Kingdom, but no where to be seen on the Union Flag - the flag of the United Kingdom
Time to bin that union flag once and for all. It seems the only denomination who can use it without any confusion would be the unionists in Northern Ireland and dont want to even begin to go there. I really think we need to sort out our identities and this may begin to address a load more of the bigger issues we seem to be burdened with, socially, racially, politically, and culturally in our fine country / countries. Interestingly what is the flag we are going to be showing the World in the Olympic games in 2012- the Union Flag or the St. George Cross? If I were a welsh athlete standing on the podium receiving my olympic gold medal, I would be offended if the a foreign flag was flown and not my own. By the way, they off course have a choice of two in keeping with the national flag confusion we are entrenched in - The Welsh Dragon or the 'Y Ddraig Goch' and the Cross of St. David.

St. Neots Under 9's last pre season training session 4th October 2009

Before our first competitive game next week against Hitchin in Hitchin, this last session with the St. Neots Under 9's saw Bryan taking forward training  learning the line out calls and loose head (left) tight heads (right) positions and Jim taking the short straw with the backs!!! Ian Nash apparently sleeping like a baby, but made it down later. The second half of the training session was set aside for some bull dog and our first aider was on hand to sort out the usual knocks and bumps. Ray left the first aid kit at home (cost saving exercise!) so Stewart had to resort to both holistic medicine and alternative therapy to get the boys repaired which seemed to work quite well!

The last part of the training saw the St. Neots under 9's facing the St. Neots under 10's again. The first half was a bit of a struggle, but soon the St. Neots under 9's found some form. Bryan and Jim concentrated on the forwards learning not to pick up the loose ball as it goes to ground, but to drive over the ball and create the space for the arriving backs and scrum half. Tackling on the whole was a bit shy by the St. Neots under 9's and too much sloppy passing in the first few minutes of the match. However Alex, returning after an earlier knock showed us all how it should be done and got stuck in with a series of solid tackling. We did see some great running down the wings with Adam reminding us all what he can pull out of the bag from anywhere on the field and what an asset he will be to the side in the new session. The forwards are going to have to learn to keep up though (if they can).

Bryans round up picked up on the importance of the forward drive and the backs holding the line from the line out position. Player of the week was given to Alex for a series of stunning tackles.

Off to see Posh play Notts Forest

Getting the train up from St.Neots to watch Posh play Notts Forrest. Here are a few facts about both clubs;

Head-to-head
These clubs have only been in the same division once before; in 1993/94, when Forest did the double over Peterborough.
Peterborough's only victories over Forest were in a third-round FA Cup replay in 1976 and the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in 2007.
Peterborough
Peterborough are in danger of losing three successive league games for the first time since suffering eight in a row between December 2006 and January 2007.
Posh have drawn all three league games in which they have opened the scoring.
They have conceded more first-half goals than any other club in the Championship (12).

Nottingham Forest
Forest are hoping to gain three league wins in a row for the first time in nine months.
They are the only club still unbeaten away from home in the Championship (1W, 4D)
Billy Davies' side have won one and drawn seven of eight away matches since losing at Burnley on 14 March.
