St. Neots Under 9's Match report 22nd November 2009
On a bright and sunny day St Neots U9’s set off to conquer the world starting with Dunstablians. Unfortunately, some one had annoyed the weather Gods and by the time we got to the ground the clouds had obscured the sun and the wind had decided it wanted to come out and play.
Sadly we had one or two boys down with various sicknesses and had only nine on the day, which meant that there was no opportunity for the boys to have a rest (or get cold) unless they were injured. In the first game we started a little slowly, (why do we always do this especially away from home? I think I need to change the warm-up routines) but finished the stronger losing a close game 10 – 5 which we nearly drew with Liam being unfortunate in losing the ball as he crossed the try line. Sadly we lost Thomas for the second half with a slight ankle injury, but Dunstablians kindly supplied a sub for us.
During the second game we were again down with injured players losing both Alex and Morgan at various times. This time we also Lost 10 – 5 but Liam held on to the ball to score as the last act of the game. By this time Wind’s friend Rain had decided to join the party and decided to play the lets get everyone soaking game, and the referee heroically blew the whistle for full time as when he looked back after the try was scored it was clear that there were only 5 properly fit players wearing blue.
Well done to James who was awarded player of the week. The trophy was around but at the other end of the clubhouse.
Special mention to Jaidon and Morgan who both put in very good performances, and the two subs from Dunstablians Reece and Matthew
Training next week, I believe that it will be the same as last week, but Colin will have a fuller set of Coaches. Watch out for Ian, Jim and I reffing one of the older sides as part of our course.
