St Neots under 9's Mini Rugby Training session 18th October 2009

Yet another glorious day down at the St. Neots ground for another training session before our crunch match against the old enemy. HUNTINGDON AWAY We had a good turn out for the St. Neots under 9s with 13 little mini rugby stars eager to learnt from last weeks hammering from Hitchin.
This week Bryan and Jim took the backs for drill work whilst the forwards went off with the big boys (under 10s) where they experienced Colin and Daves style of training. We also saw the forwards on a scrum machine for the first time, and eventually they realised it wasnt a fair ground attraction but their worst nightmare come true.

The second half of the training saw a match against the St. Neots under 10s with a twist and to start with I had no bloody idea what was going on, with yellow vests been dished out left, right and centre!! The under 9s forwards joined the under 10s backs and the under 9s backs joined the under 10s forwards.
This was a great session with everybody getting a good run out on the large field of play. It was obvious very early on that the St. Neots under 9s would learn a lot from their more experienced team mates and Colin came down hard with the rule book but just a hard with the players sticking to their roles and positions. The whistle was blown regularly for knock ons etc etc, but very little for off side which shows the boys are probably learning much quicker than we give them credit for.

Bryan and Jim awarded man of the match / player of the week to Liam for being a right ol nuisance to the opposition, getting the loose ball, driving forward and ripping the ball out of his opponents grip.

Next week we have Huntingdon away.
Finally could I also remind all that the boys on behalf of Jim and Bryan that gum shields in the mouth is compulsory and not a fashion accessory to be kept in their bags. Any player without a gum shield will be asked to sit out in future. YOU HAVE ALL BEEN WARNED!!!
Finally dont forget the interaction scheme running between the seniors and the minis and your little darling could be in a picture like this. Remember when the seniors are at home, St. Neots Mini Rugby stars are invited to warm up with them, be a ball ball for the game and are presented with a certificate from the senior club. Ask Bryan for more details. Picture supplied by Liams Grand parents
