St. Neots match report 25th October 2009

St Neots Under 9s Match Report
Well as you may be aware we have a guest match reporter for this week. So big thanks to Allan Denham for stepping in. I was away in Suffolk on a Sun Holiday for a tenner which worked out to be 132 pounds in the end!!! Thanks for all the photos, but unfortunately your camera setting was on too higher resolution for our web server to handle. Apologies about that Allan, I should have mentioned that!!!I should have also mentioned that blogs dont like apostrophies either, hence no apostrophie in the word dont for example, so you will see a few odd characters cropping up.
Any way feast your eyes over this literary masterpiece...... and any spelling mistakes please bring up with Allan directly...

Huntingdon vs St Neots 25 October 2009
Well!! What a difference two weeks and a bit of training makes.
Two games against the old rivals saw St Neots victorious in both. Not only that but – and of course I’m not biased – the winning margins in both games could well have been greater. OK so we did have a ringer in the shape of Jordon Holdaway from the Under 10s. As his team weren’t playing Huntingdon were asked if he could play with the Under 9s and they sportingly readily agreed.

The first game of 15 minutes each way saw St Neots make a cracking start with Harry scoring within the first two minutes. This was followed up in the first half with two scores by Jordon. Huntingdon got one in reply but St Neots were always on top. The second half saw a closer match with both teams scoring one try. St Neots’ try coming from Callum after he had a strong run down the wing before cutting inside and passing the defence with ease.
The score for St Neots could have been greater but for some confusion over where the try line was. Both Alex and Liam thought they had scored only to find they were not in the “in touch” area. Perhaps the team needs a clearer briefing where the various lines could be in doubt.
The second game also saw St Neots starting strongly with some excellent driving by the forwards and passing from the backs. Scorers this half were Alex and Jordon without reply from Huntingdon. The excellent standard of play continued with a further two tries, one from Callum and the other from James, again without reply from Huntingdon.
This was a much better team performance with the forwards working well at winning the ball and getting it out to the backs. There was much better organisation all round and if we continue to progress like this for the rest of the season who knows what can be achieved.
Man of the match – chosen by a straw poll of parents was Alex for his consistent strong running and tackling. So well done to him but also to the rest of the team. You all did really well.
Game 1 Huntingdon 10 St Neots 20
Game 2 Huntingdon 0 St Neots 20
